Michael W. Marcellin, Ph.D.

Dr. Marcellin has been a University of Arizona faculty member since 1988. He is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Professor of Optical Sciences. Dr. Marcellin is a major contributor of technology to JPEG2000, the emerging second-generation standard for image compression. He is founder of DTS AZ Research, LLC. The company specializes in application of JPEG2000 for digital cinema and other image applications. This new format for digital cinema is expected to be adopted industry wide by all major movie theaters in the next 3 to 5 years.

James C. Wyant, Ph.D.

Michael Descour, Ph.D.

Dr. Wyant has been a University of Arizona faculty member since 1974. He currently serves as Director of the Optical Sciences Center. In 1982, Dr. Wyant formed WYKO, a company specializing in the development of interferometers for the measurement of surface roughness and surface shape. WYKO was sold to Veeco Instruments, Inc. in 1997 and since then Dr. Wyant has been active in several other startups including 4D Technology and DMetrix.
Dr. Descour joined the faculty at the University of Arizona in 1995. He is an Associate Professor of Optical Sciences. Dr. Descour formed DMetrix in 2001. The company develops microscopic-imaging systems that incorporate technology from optical design, digital imaging, telecommunications and bioinformatics. The company's first product is a high-speed scanning instrument and software tools to facilitate telepathology, a branch of telemedicine.

Thomas M. Grogan, M.D.

Dr. Grogan has been a University of Arizona faculty member since 1979. He currently serves as a Professor of Pathology in the College of Medicine. In 1985, Dr. Grogan formed Ventana Medical Systems and currently serves as the company's Chief Medical Officer. Ventana Medical Systems develops, manufactures and markets instrument and reagent systems that automate tissue preparation and slide staining in clinical histology and drug discovery laboratories worldwide.
Dr. Chen joined the faculty at the University of Arizona in 1989. He is a McClelland Professor of Management Information Systems in the Eller College of Management. Dr. Chen formed Knowledge Computing Corporation in 2000. The company is best known for its COPLINK System, which is widely used by law enforcement and the intelligence community.
